Watch Shane Lowry shock fans by losing his cool with Ryder Cup marshal during pivotal clash with Jordan Spieth
SHANE LOWRY wasn’t all smiles and celebrations during Sunday’s triumphant Ryder Cup victory over USA.
During his singles match against Jordan Spieth, Lowry snapped at one of the marshals which caught fans off guard. The marshal uttered his usual saying of “stand still and don’t move please” as Lowry was lining up his swing. The Offaly man sharply turned and said: “you’re making more f***ing noise than anyone else”.
This sparked a few muffled chuckles from the crowd.
It didn’t affect Lowry’s day anyway as he went on to tie with Spieth as Europe claimed a convincing victory. The Clara native was the life of the party later on as he and Rory McIlroy led their teammates in singing an iconic chant on the party bus. The pair were videoed jumping up and down on the bus singing their hearts out with ‘Europe’s on fire, USA are terrified’, to the tune of the fans favourite ‘Free From Desire’.
The duo had been in party mode for hours since Lowry finished his round and McIlroy took the chance to drench him with a bottle of champagne.
They also took turns drinking straight from the Ryder Cup trophy itself. After a few gulps, Lowry passed the Cup to McIlroy who looked a bit taken aback by the smell of its contents. They made sure to “give the captain a drink” as McIlroy went in search of Luke Donald.
Lowry shared his huge moment with a number of people, including his wife Wendy, as well as his dad Brendan. The 36-year-old shared a number of photos of the father-and-son duo holding the trophy together. It was the latest sporting accolade to be collected by the Lowry family. As has been well-documented, Shane won The Open Championship in 2019 and the 2022 BMW PGA Championship, amongst a number of honours.
His dad Brendan, meanwhile, is a certified GAA legend in their native county, having been part of the Faithful side that won the 1982 All-Ireland football title. Both men remain massively fanatical when it comes to the GAA. Earlier this year, when the Offaly U20s won the Leinster hurling title, Shane and Brendan cheered on from Rochester and the USPGA Championship. Lowry, meanwhile, has been a major financial backer for Offaly GAA since 2021.

His fandom of GAA appeared to manifest in his passionate behaviour during the Ryder Cup itself. It wasn’t just his shots that he celebrated, reacting sensationally to Viktor Hovlund’s irresistible form on Friday evening.
