The year 2021 was a dark one for American tennis legend, Chris Evert. In December that year, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Although in its early stages, it was a major jolt to the former World Number 1, who was one of the fittest athletes on the tour during her playing days. Although she battled the early stage of that cancer years ago, she recently revealed that the cancer had returned. Amid this, Evert shared an emotional tale about life.

Amid her cancer diagnosis, Evert has been active on social media, often sharing important life updates. Recently, a gripping tale about a child with severe disabilities went viral on social media. Evert shared that story via her official Twitter handle and also had a short comment on it.

The tale was about a boy named Matthew who was born with numerous disabilities. On September 23, 1988, Ernest and Anneke Robinson welcomed Matthew into this world. However, due to lack of oxygen, Matthew was blind and paralyzed from the neck down.

The doctors had given up on him and said that he would live only for a few hours. But to everyone’s surprise, Matthew lived to be 10-and-a-half years old. His parents decided for his gravestone to be unique, depicting Matthew in his truest form and signifying hope rather than grief.

Evert shared this enticing story and said, “This is beautiful…” Additionally, this tale went viral on social media and invited thousands of reactions. Indeed, it beautifully depicts the value of life and despite the difficulties, Matthew went on to live a precious life.

Evert has regularly kept her fans updated about her health condition. She took to social media to reveal to her fans her second cancer diagnosis a few weeks back.

What did Evert say about her cancer diagnosis?
While the American tennis legend had recovered from her early stage of ovarian cancer years ago, her worst fears came true when it was diagnosed for a second time a few weeks back. Evert shared this saddening update with her fans via her official Twitter handle.

She revealed, “Since I was first diagnosed with cancer two years ago, I’ve been very open about my experience. I wanted to give all of you an update. My cancer is back.”

However, like the first time, this diagnosis was also caught early. Subsequently, she underwent robotic surgery and chemotherapy. As a result, Evert will miss the Australian Open as a commentator. Nonetheless, she hopes to be back for the other Grand Slam tournaments of the 2024 season.
