‘Mediocre’ Alexis Ohanian Relies on Serena Williams for Olympia’s Tennis Career While Offering Secondary Role

Every parent wants to pass on all their life’s learning to their kids, to ensure they have the best. Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have been hands-on parents in providing for their daughters. Moreover, it’s not unusual for children to follow in their parent’s footsteps. However, when one of your parents is a tennis legend, those steps could be much larger to fill in. And would certainly require a legendary coach, to teach the way of the champion. However, when it comes to coaching Olympia in sports, she need not worry, as ‘Mamma’ Williams is there to get her through it all!

Recently on his business podcast, ‘Business Dad‘, Ohanian indulged in a conversation with the former basketball player, Shane Battier. During the candid chat, Battier revealed his current role as his son’s high-school basketball coach. He further went on to pass some advice about coaching kids to the Reddit co-founder. He said, “I hope that you guys get a chance to coach your kids and try to give them the same lessons that you learn if you want me to be honest.” The initial words alarmed the entrepreneur, due to his ‘mediocre’ sports background.

Without much ado, Ohanian took a step back, as he further opened up about his relatively small sporting career. He said, “I played I played very mediocre football.” Meanwhile, he admitted that his 23-time Grand Slam champion wife, Serena Williams, would be a perfect coach for their kids. As he further added, “Olympia is in better hands with, with tennis for sure with mom.”

The father of two, has been an ardent supporter of women’s sports, and is a proud owner of two sports teams, NWSL’s Angel City Football Club and L.A. Golf Club. However, he may is not the preferred choice for teaching their kids to play a game. But Ohanian didn’t discount himself, as he offered to play another role for Olympia and support her tennis career.

Serena Williams would certainly not prefer business and father coming in the same line, and Ohanian knows it! However, this time might be an exception. Although Ohanian may not be a perfect coach for Olympia, the entrepreneur is undoubtedly good at business. Hence, he chose to be Olympia’s business manager while Serena Williams coached her to be the best in the world. “I can assure you if Olympia ends up playing tennis I’ll I’ll be her business manager. I’ll let let mom to the actual coaching,” said Olympia’s dad.

Moreover, the 6-year-old might go for it. She accompanied the former World No.1 to the tennis court, back in the day. But tennis is not the only sport she has tried her hands at as she was also seen playing Golf. Olympia is in no hurry to choose her career and is open to options.

Whether the young Ohanian would pick up tennis as her career is certainly a question for now. But if she does, it would be the best of both worlds. She already has a world-class tennis coach and business manager ready to launch her tennis career.
