Goal-Fest Madness: Notts County and Grimsby Deliver a Thrilling 5-5 Draw, Breaking Hearts in Wrexham’s Camp as Reynolds & McElhenney’s Favorites Slip Away in the 95th Minute

Grimsby’s Harry Wood scored in the dying moments of the game to snatch two points away from Notts County, who would have thought they had won the game after David McGoldrick’s second goal in the 92nd minute had put them within touching distance of victory. However, in response to going behind, Wood was subbed on and managed to grab that all-important 10th goal of the game to claim a point for his side.

After battling to go up from the National League last season, Notts County and Wrexham resumed their rivalry this season as both sides push for back-to-back promotions. The Red Dragons saw off AFC Wimbledon 2-0 to capitalise on Mansfield Town dropping points, moving them into second place in the table. Despite Notts County and Wrexham – who both finished on over 100 points in the National League last season – being promotion rivals, the Welsh side’s Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have always been full of praise for the Magpies in the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary, clearly impressed by how close they pushed them in the battle for promotion last term.

Notts County lost their manager Luke Williams to Swansea in a period of managerial change in League Two. Sutton United, Salford City and Colchester United have also switched managers in the past fortnight.
Next weekend, Notts County take on league leaders Stockport. Meanwhile, Wrexham make the trip to south Wales to take on Newport County as they continue to chase automatic promotion to League One.
